LUNGS OF THE LAND

As the world shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, I feared for my family living in New Orleans, LA. I spent a tremendous amount of time researching the science. What was happening internally that caused so many to perish due to COVID-19? How likely is a recovery for those hospitalized? Is there permanent damage done to the lungs? We still have so many questions unanswered for this virus but I continue to study x-rays and the anatomy of the lungs. Never in my life have I sat so consciously with the rhythm of my breath. As I studied the anatomy and biology affected by this virus, I couldn't help but see similarities outside of the body. Shapes that echo in landscapes, faultlines, and alluvial fans. Our internal structure is immediately affected by our external environments. With this awareness, I have hope for a future fueled by environmental justice.

In a time of unprecedented global challenges that have affected galleries and museums worldwide, Eric Minh Swenson, Meeson Pae Yang, Jan Taylor and Britney Penouilh installed an exhibition titled CONTAINMENT at Paul Williams Gallery Ontario, CA. CONTAINMENT features recent work created during a global pandemic and quarantine.
